While there are several martial arts that you can choose from, Judo is one of the best when it comes to self-defense. Judo is a form of self-defense that specializes in close combat throwing, and uses an attacker’s momentum against him. Judo is particularly useful for men, women and children as it builds self-esteem, makes them fitter and keeps them prepared for any situation.
Why Learn Judo At Home?
There five simple reasons why you should learn Judo at home.
Reason #1. In the modern era, most people work at desk jobs and spend several hours a day working with a computer. Very few of us have jobs that are physically demanding. This means most people don’t exercise enough, and get out of shape as they get older. Judo is a physically intense sport and it gives the body a perfect cardiovascular workout. It helps you lose weight fast and strengthens the core considerably.
Reason #2. Practicing a martial art technique such as Judo, acts as a perfect stress buster. It relaxes you completely and helps get rid of the pressure from work. Work will be the last thing on your mind as you learn Judo at home.
Reason #3. Learning Judo builds up your confidence and self-esteem as you feel capable of tackling any situation. Children, in particular, will pick up the courage to take on bullies in school. When you learn Judo, you become fearless.
Reason #4. Learning Judo prepares you for a life and death situation. For example, if you are at an ATM and somebody attacks you from behind, because of your Judo skills, you will be able to use their own momentum against them, so that you can get on top of them, immobilize and disarm them successfully, without getting hurt.

How to Learn Judo at Home?
To learn Judo at home, you will need a lot of commitment and importantly a training partner. It is very difficult to learn Judo at home without a training partner. Once you have arranged for a friend to be a training partner, you can get started with your Judo sessions at home. Let’s discuss how to do that.
#1. Clear up the garage or a large room of all obstructions and have the floor padded up. You cannot practice Judo on a concrete floor as you will get hurt.
#3. Begin your training with Judo moves that don’t require a partner to practice with. Some of the moves that fit this description are forward and read ukemi, chops, stances, footwork drills, rear and side breakfalls.
#4. Invite a training partner and practice moves such as throws and locks with him or her. Work hard on these moves because they are the basic skills that every Judo practitioner should pick up. However, don’t do any choking maneuvers with your partner as they can be dangerous (and even lead to death) if not done under the supervision of an expert.
#5. Get a Judo expert to supervise at least one of your training sessions a week. It is important to get feedback from an expert about your technique and form. Ask for suggestions to improve.
